Online, cookies are files that are saved by websites onto a user’s computer after they’ve made a visit to a webpage. They’re used for a variety of reasons, such as to save log-in details to make it easier for users to quickly access their favourite websites. They also save shopping carts so that users can access them between browsing sessions.
Cookie use on browsers is subject to change as some cookies are used to track web users across different websites for marketing purposes. They have been the subject of privacy debates and Google announced in 2021 its intention to phase out these “third-party cookies”.
