Google Penguin is the name given to one of Google’s algorithms, first released in April 2012. Google Penguin was released specifically to identify and filter out spam webpages from its search results. The intention of its release was to improve user experience by relegating or removing these webpages so that users would not encounter them.
Specifically, Google Penguin targets those websites that appear to have been attempting to artificially inflate their page rank, for instance through keyword stuffing or by engaging in link farming.
The algorithm has now been incorporated into Google’s main algorithm, which means that all websites are assessed by Penguin in real time. That incorporation has put an end to many spammy website and webpages featuring on search engine results pages.
