Google’s Local Pack is designed to link its users with local businesses. When a web user keys in a search query that appears to be searching for a local business, the Local Pack will kick in, offering three local business listings in the results pages.
Unlike organic search results, Local Pack listings are taken from the Google My Business directory, which is a different database to that used when indexing ordinary sites. Because it taps into the Google My Business directory, the Local Pack includes map data and other important information about local businesses.
Businesses that are close to the web user and appear to be prominent – judged by third-party reviews, Google reviews, and links to the business’ website – are more likely to be ranked in the Local Pack.
