Top News, sometimes referred to as the News Box, is a list of top news stories that relate to the keywords typed in by a web user. They will feature at the top of search engine results pages (SERPs) when it appears clear that a web user is searching for a news story.
Top News is distinct from the News tab on Google (found next to the Images and Shopping options) as it appears above organic search results. The top stores picked by Google’s algorithm will also be found on the Google News tab. They’re presented with a thumbnail picture, a headline, and the length of time that the article has been published for.
